Eat * Drink * Play – Shoreline

Today’s Eat * Drink * Play, we are taking a look at the city directly north of Seattle, the popular city of Shoreline. Shoreline is a huge attraction for families because of its school district, which is ranked third in the state. But there is a lot of other reasons that make Shoreline a great place to live. From Shoreline, you are 20 minutes (without traffic) from either downtown Seattle or Lynnwood’s Alderwood mall, striking the perfect balance between getting to live a city lifestyle and enjoy the comforts and lack of paid parking that the suburbs offer. It’s diverse demographics in ethnicity means lot of great food locations scattered around the city and its range of economics means you can still find affordable housing, yet grab a very upscale home if you so desire. Outdoor lovers can enjoy a myriad parks and public beach areas to enjoy. Here’s my picks for Eat Drink Play – Shoreline

Flying Dragon Chinese Cuisine

1430 NW Richmond Beach Rd C, Shoreline, WA 98177 (206) 533-8888Flying Dragon was a lucky discovery for me when I first moved to Shoreline five years ago. It’s clean cooking and tasty traditional Chinese food dishes were welcome additions to my house after discovering they had free delivery.  You won’t find a lot of exotic dishes on the menu, but you will find that the dishes they do, they do really well. This makes you feel safe when trying the more unfamiliar dishes. Personal household favorites from here include the walnut shrimp, broccoli beef, and the house fried rice.

Darrell’s Tavern

18041 Aurora Ave N, Seattle, WA 98133Darrell’s Tavern is one of the funnest dive bars you will find in the north Seattle area. I don’t know what I enjoy more, the carpet on the walls, the amazing number of illuminated beer signs displayed inside, or the classy painting of Mom. To be perfectly honest, I’m totally biased with this pick. I’ve been producing a monthly comedy show at Darrell’s for the last five and a half years. That said, the bar has events nearly every night of the week. Live music nearly every weekend, Trivia/Taco Tuesdays, Open Mic Music Night, a weekly special night that evolves. The star of the bar is always the drinks though, nothing special, but  strong drinks and a cold tap. Darrell’s is a great place to meet friends for a drink where you need no pretensions other than enjoying your friends company. That’s what makes dive bars the best.

Richmond Beach Saltwater Park

2021 NW 190th StreetOne of the best kept secrets of Shoreline is the beaches. You won’t find bustling crowds of Golden Gardens or Alki Beach, but Richmond Beach Saltwater Park is certainly just as beautiful and a great location to get a respite from daily living. This 40-acre park includes playgrounds, trails, public art, picnic shelters, beautiful views of the Puget Sound and is known to feature city-sponsored concerts and a popular wedding ceremony location.
